The "Wand"

Anesthetic Technology | Chesapeake Endodontic Specialists | Annapolis, MD

One of the least liked things about dental treatment is "the shot." Chesapeake Endodontic Center is equipped with an advanced computerized anesthetic delivery system called "The Wand." In the hands of skilled and caring doctors, this system controls rate and flow of anesthetic, virtually eliminating the discomfort associated with dental injections. Fear of the needle might cause some to delay dental care. With our system and compassionate care we can help you overcome this fear.

Apex Locators

Root Canal Technology | Chesapeake Endodontic Specialists | Annapolis, MD

An apex locator is an electronic device used in root canal treatment to determine the length of the root canal space. The electronic principle is based on electrical resistance; when a circuit is complete (apical tissue is contacted by the tip of the file), resistance decreases markedly and current begins to flow. Endodontists used to rely on tactile feel and multiple x-rays to determine the length of the canal. The use of apex locators allows for fewer x-rays (to help determine the root canal length) and a more predictible outcome of the treatment.

Our operatories are equipped with sophisticated ultrasonic units which are used to remove posts and metal instruments, as well as aid in the search for calcified canals. These units are also used to prepare the root-end for a retrograde filling in cases when microsurgical intervention is indicated. The diamond coated microscopic tips vibrate up to 25,000 cycles per second to insure accurate and speedy preparation.

Electric Handpieces and Rotary Nickel-Titanium Instruments

The drill historically used by dentists is air driven. Air driven dental hand-pieces produce a loud shrill noise and deliver inconsistent torque. By employing a newly developed all electric system, there is no shrill ear-piercing noise that can increase the anxiety experienced. The electric system also delivers consistent torque for more efficient care and reduced vibration. The cleaning and shaping of the root canal is aided by the use of flexible metal instruments made of a unique alloy of nickel-titanium. We use both hand and rotary instruments along with liquid antimicrobial agents to help remove bacteria and tissue from root canal systems. This ensures the high predictability of root canal treatment.

Digital Radiography

Dental X-Rays | Chesapeake Endodontic Specialists | Annapolis, MD

X-ray procedures are an essential part of quality endodontic therapy. Our office utilizes an advanced non-film dental imaging system known as CDR developed by Schick Technologies, Inc. The already low radiation required for dental radiographs is further reduced by over 80% compared to conventional film. Using this system, an electronic sensor produces computerized radiographs which appear instantly on a chairside computer screen. These images can then be optimized, printed, archived indefinitely and sent to the referring dentist. Also, there are no film processing chemicals that could pose a hazard to staff or our environment.

Surgical Microscopes

Surgical Microscopes | Chesapeake Endodontic Specialists | Annapolis, MD

Each of our treatment rooms is equipped with a state of the art dental operating microscope. The enhanced magnification and fiberoptic illumination provided by these microscopes are invaluable tools that assist us in performing the technical aspects of endodontic treatment. With these microscopes we can actually visualize the internal anatomy of the canals as well as locate and treat fine calcified canals. Our operating microscopes are also equipped with high-resolution video to help document cases for enhanced communication.

Chesapeake Endodontic Center is dedicated to the most advanced technologies that bring better care and increased comfort for our patients. We are looking forward to new developments in dental lasers. Currently dental lasers do not decrease treatment time, increase comfort, or produce better treatment outcomes. The significant costs associated with the use of lasers would cause an increase in treatment fees, with no real benefit for patients. Therefore, Chesapeake Endodontic Center is waiting for further advancements in laser technology, before employing lasers in our system of care.

Cone Beam

Dental Cone Beam | Chesapeake Endodontic Specialists | Annapolis, MD

We are excited to add 3-demensional computerized radiography to our practice at the Chesapeake Endodontic Center. Computerized (or computed) tomography, and often formerly referred to as computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan, is an X-ray procedure that combines many X-ray images with the aid of a computer to generate cross-sectional views and, if needed, three-dimensional images of the teeth and the surrounding bone. CT scans have been used in the medical environment for years with great safety and enhanced diagnostic capabilities. We can now use this technology to assist us with high quality root canal treatment!
